Soccer fever..
Now, this is what I call "Jawaani ki josh" or simply put in our local laaaaanguage "yavvanada bisi raktha" :-D...Just created a blogger account..Already posting my second blog entry!! Lets see how far the josh remains..:-)
The main motivation behind this is SOCCER...Being an avid soccer fan and with the World Cup going on in full swing, I really thought it would have been a washte if I hadnt written something about my third love..i.e., Soccer!! :-)) (I would die for cricket and fall ill for F1! :-)) During those days when cricket was EVERYTHING, i loathed any other game...Just like how a few terribly ignorant peeepal (mainly consisting of the so called "computer gamers"..yes i really blame computers and its games on the lack of interest of a few ppl in outdoor games... and a few of the fairer sex) opine that "cricket is about 22 people running behind a red cherry and 22000 more "fools" watching them run"....I had an opinion that Soccer was a game where for scoring ONE goal...yes one single bleddy goal, they sweat it out for 90 mins!!! I couldnt understand the logic behind that! I JUST SIMPLY COULDNT....:-) Then suddenly came 1994 World Cup.Italy lost the final to Brazil due to a penalty miss by Roberto Baggio...It opened the eyes of an ignorant man! :-) Soccer was just another "interesting" game after that... Enter 21st century and Soccer became a craze..IT REALLY BECAME..
Whats in this "beautiful" game that acts like a magnet???? Of course the "beautiful" Brazilian las chicas bonitas also contribute to the factor! ;-) But it is the sheer craze of the people that motivates one to watch soccer. Succha crowd.....crazy ppl...not fighting for their country....not fighting againt terrorists...but yet ready to lay down and take away lives..Its is imply scintillating....Cricket is a religion in India....Soccer is the life of many people in the world!! People not interested in it, really are missing something..
Focussing on the current WC, i think there are a few very good teams in the fray. I personally love the Czech Republic for their style and strongly support them. I think if they are in full force, then they are the team to beat after Brazil. Brazil's flair is unmistakably remarkable. Afterall they have the most promising trio in Adriano, Kaka and Robinho. England has a great team. If the Chelsea players John Terry, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole carry the form that they had in the premiership, then they stand a good chance. Argentina have one of the best playmakers in Juan Roman Riquelme. They too stand a decent chance. I wouldnt want to sit and write about each team's analysis in detail! After all, I was the person who said in my earlier blog, WHY SHOULD ANYBODY READ MY OPINION AND COMMENT! :-)
As to the serious title contenders...I think a prediction that comes after the first round of game would be a genuine one..So, lets wait until the forst round is over...sit back and enjoy the game..And later judge who may actually win. I really think the when people say "I am supporting Brazil or team X as it will win", they are novices in football or for that matter ANY game. After not always that the team u like or the team that you support always wins!
